The clergy vest in Western vestments — the chasuble, the stole, the alb — and the colors of those vestments change with the church year, exactly as this site does. In Advent the altar wears violet; at Easter, white and gold; at Pentecost, red; through the long Season after Pentecost, green. The colors are customary, not rubrical law, and they remain parish-adjustable — but they are the church’s lived practice, and the cathedral keeps them.

There is no dress code and no requirement of membership. The Mother Church receives all who come. If you have not worshipped in the African Orthodox tradition before, you will find a liturgy that is at once familiar in its Western shape and particular in its inheritance — a Black-led church under Black authority, carrying an unbroken apostolic line from 1921.

If you are coming for the first time, know that the doors are open to whoever comes. There is no membership to join, no dress code to meet, no expectation beyond your presence. The liturgy is spoken and sung in the Western shape you may already know; the inheritance it carries is particular to this church. Come as you are.
